Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Part 2): Bring me the Head of Sandy Frank! was the logical continuation of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Part 1): 7-Zark-7 Must Die!. The voice over for both parodies was done simultaneously. As far as post production goes, the big difference between Bring me the Head of Sandy Frank! and 7-Zark-7 Must Die! is the fact that since we had discovered all the bugs of our new audio editing system during the final post production phase of Part 1; we were able to get an even better sounding audio mix on Part 2. It turned out really good because we now knew how to work around, and compensate for certain factors we knew would arise during the mix down.
This was the second production we did in conjunction with the Sherbert Productions Home Page. Phillip posted status reports on the Project's progress periodically. The final stereo mix was completed on Wednesday, December 25th, 1996 (Yes, Corellian works on Christmas). |
We premiered the completed Ninja Team Gatchaman: Bring me the Head of Sandy Frank! on Thursday,January 16th, 1997 at Confurence VIII in Buena Park, California. We originally didn't plan to show anything in our hotel room that night because the Convention itself didn't begin until Friday, but since the hotel was already full of Convention attendees we figured,"What the hell." Believe it or not, we got a good crowd that night (including a couple of Gatchamaniacs), and the reviews from the audience were favorable. One of the things that really let us know we had an audience pleaser in this one was the fact that two fans went out into the hall after it ended, and screamed a line spoken by Ken near the end of the video, "Oh my God! I dated a guy! AAAAAAAHHHHH!" They did this numerous times as they headed towards the hotel elevators. Phillip also received an (in jest) death threat from a professed Gatchamaniac in the audience for a couple of Joe's lines. |
We showed both Gatchaman parodies on Saturday, November 15, 1997 at GATCHAPALOOZA '97 (held as part of Anime Weekend Atlanta 3). There were about 70 people at the screening; a majority of whom were true Gatchamaniacs. We figured that we would either have them rolling on the floor, or we'd get lynched by an angry mob before our show was over. As it turned out everyone was quite pleased, and we got a small ovation and a sincere thank you from Jen Nolan and the assembled crowd. |
The following is an excerpt taken from an article written by Jeff Banning regarding his experiences at Anime Weekend Atlanta 3. The article appeared in Issue Number 9 (Winter 1998) of ANIMECO magazine. The excerpt was taken from page 18. It was the first time that we of Sherbert Productions saw comments about our work in a nationally distributed magazine. Anyway, here's what Mr. Banning wrote about us:
